Accommodation For Contractors: Tips To Improve Your Property

Accommodation for contractors has a different list of requirements to holiday stays, and even more corporate business travel. Here’s some advice on making your property ideal for travelling contractors:

It’s Hard to Know if Your Accommodation is a Good Fit for Business Travel Guests

Here’s how you can tell if your accommodation would be ideal for different types of corporate travellers & contractors:

Is Your Accommodation a Good Fit for Contractors?

A good place to start is by going through the property, apartment, or hotel with a checklist. The main things contractors need or request most frequently are parking with security or CCTV, parking for bigger vehicles such as HGVs, breakfast that starts early (hotels), and separate bedrooms (often with ensuites). They also appreciate home comforts such as smart TVs, coffee makers, and air-conditioning. We also have a few clients that bring a dog with them to every job, so they need dog-friendly accommodation. Although, we also have clients who are allergic to dogs, so this doesn’t work for everyone. Contractors can stay from a single night to months, so what they need can vary depending on which of these stays it is. Contractors don’t always work what we consider to be typical hours, so they tend to avoid hotels with curfews.

What Do Contractors Request from Their Accommodation?

Based on the common requests from our clients.

Location?

The ideal location for a contractor’s accommodation depends on where their work site is, but city centres are requested the most.

Is Your Accommodation a Good Fit for Sales Teams?

Your checklist for sales teams can include being close to the nearest event centre, parking reasonably nearby, and a desk. They also prefer hotels with reasonably priced food available, or nearby reasonably priced restaurants. Sales teams are often only in town for a trade show, so anywhere with a minimum number of nights to book is unsuitable. If your accommodation isn’t close to an event centre, being close to the city centre, transport links, or near the motorway could also be helpful to sales teams. While they do generally expect breakfast in a hotel, it doesn’t need to be especially early. Sales teams are likely to be meeting with potential clients, so really need mirrors and adequate lighting to make sure they look presentable. While not essential, providing a guide to getting to the nearest event centre could boost your reviews.

What Might Attract Business Travellers in General?

Aside from the obvious things everyone wants from accommodation, there are a few things that can sway business travellers towards one accommodation over another. To begin with, having to work the next day means getting a good night’s sleep is essential. This means that blackout blinds or curtains, and air-con in summer are popular requests. Business travellers are also likely to return to the area, so reasons to book your accommodation again, such as a loyalty scheme, could be helpful.
